Be Connected with God for Nourishment and Strength
“You shall not make yourselves any idols: no images of animals, birds, or fish. You must never bow or worship it in any way; for I the Lord your God am very possessive. I will not share your affection with any other god…” (Exo 20:4, TLB)! “…Worship only the Lord God. Obey only Him” (Matt 4:10, TLB). “…I know how rebellious and stubborn you are…. While I am still here with you, you are defiant rebels against the Lord…. I know that after my death you will utterly defile yourselves and turn away from God and His commands…” (Deut 31:27-29; 4:15-19 & 25, TLB). “Don’t look to men for help; their greatest leaders fail” (Pss 146:3, TLB). “Be sober, be vigilant…” (1 Pet 5:8), “for… false apostles, deceitful workers, [are] transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. …Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light; therefore, it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness…” (2 Cor 11:13-15). Thus, “…Ask where the good road is, the godly paths…, travel there, and you will find rest for your souls…” (Jer 6:16, TLB). Against this background, Paul counseled New Testament believers against the self-destruction of idolatry. “…Don’t let anyone declare you lost when you refuse to worship angels, as they say you must. They have seen a vision, they say, and know you should. These proud men, (though they claim to be so humble), have a very clever imagination. But they are NOT connected to Christ, the Head to which all of us who are His body are joined; for we are joined together by His strong sinews, and we grow only as we get our nourishment and strength from God” (Col 2:18-19, TLB). Let His words abide in you (John 15:7). “I take joy in doing your will, my God, for your instructions are written on my heart” (Pss 40:8, NLT).
