God's Children Worship Him in Spirit and Truth
Superficial, ritualistic worship is useless (1 Kings 18:26). We need deep revival and reformation of godliness (2 Chron 7:14). Else, “when you lift up your hands in prayer, I will NOT look. Though you offer many prayers, I will NOT listen, for your hands are covered with the blood of innocent victims. Wash yourselves and be clean! Get your sins out of my sight. Give up your evil ways. Learn to do good. Seek justice. Help the oppressed. Defend the cause of orphans. Fight for the rights of widows” (Isa 1:15-17, NLT). God is interested in “pure religion…” (Jam 1:27), not the scripted, phony, non-sense that passes as worship. God makes very clear what He wants for worship. “What can we bring to the Lord? What kind of offerings should we give Him? Should we bow before God with offerings of yearling calves? Should we offer Him thousands of rams and ten thousand rivers of olive oil? Should we sacrifice our firstborn children to pay for our sins? No, O people; the Lord has told you what is good, and this is what He requires of you: to do what is right, to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God” (Micah 6:8, NLT). “…Live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity” (1 Tim 2:2, NLT). “…By doing right, …silence the ignorance of foolish men” (1 Pet 2:15, NASB). “…True worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth. They are the kind of worshipers the Father is looking for” (John 4:23, NIRV). And to this group, God says: “I will answer them before they even call to me. While they are still talking about their needs, I will… answer their prayers” (Isaiah 65:24, NLT). “Call to Me and I will answer you…” (Jer 33:3, NASB).
