Live Righteously by Faith in God
Hebrews 11:1—“…Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen”—has deep meaning that might not be easily grasped. “You say you have faith, for you believe that there is one God. Good for you! Even the demons believe this…” (Jam 2:19, NLT). Does your faith lead you to live righteously? “…Anyone who does not live righteously AND does not love other believers does not belong to God” (1 John 3:10, NLT). Living righteously means rising above customs (Gen 34:1-12) and living “…by every word of God” (Luke 4:4). For example, God commanded: “…give NOT your daughters unto their sons, NEITHER take their daughters unto your sons…” (Ezra 9:12); so Abraham instructed his servant, saying:
“You shall not take a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites, in whose land I dwell; but you shall go to my father’s house and to my family, and take a wife for my son.’ And… the Lord, before whom I walk, will send His angel with you and prosper your way; and you shall take a wife for my son from my family and from my father’s house” (Gen 24:1-40, NKJV). Abraham’s certainty about success showed that he knew that blessings accompany those who “…obey the commandments of the Lord…” (Deut 11:27).
