Major Battle Scheduled for Armageddon
The Book of Revelation describes a conflict that precedes transgression in the garden of Eden. The account reads thus: “…There was war in heaven. Michael and His angels fought against the dragon, and the dragon and his angels fought back. But He was not strong enough, and they lost their place in heaven. The great dragon was hurled down—that ancient serpent called the devil, or Satan, who leads the whole world astray. He was hurled to the earth, and his angels with him. Then I heard a loud voice in heaven say: ‘Now have come the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God, and the authority of His Messiah. For the accuser of our brothers and sisters, who accuses them before our God day and night, has been hurled down’" (Rev 12: 7-10, NLT). Since Satan lost his place in heaven, he has "...been patrolling the earth, watching everything that's going on" (Job 2:2, NLT) in short time he has left on his schedule (Revelation 12:12).
Earth is being prepared for the final conflict. We know this because Daniel describes a future "...time of distress unparalleled..." in the history of nations (Daniel 12:1, CJB). The combatant commander on the side of earth is none other than Satan, who stood beside "...Joshua, the High Priest, [as he stood] before the Angel of the Lord..." (Zechariah 3:1, TLB). He is "the thief [who] comes only in order to steal, kill, and destroy..." (John 10:10, CJB). "…[He is] the commander of the powers in the unseen world, …the spirit at work in the hearts of those who refuse to obey God” (Eph 2:2, NLT). And just as he disguised himself in Eden, working through an intermediary—the serpent—and deceived Eve (Gen 3:1-7, CJB | 1 Tim 2:14, NLT), he is doing the same thing today—deceiving the nations (Revelation 20:2-3) because that is his character (Revelation 20:7-8).
Just as Satan's deception in Eden brought major distress on the human family (Romans 6:23 | (Genesis 3:23-24), his deception in the end-time will have a similar impact. This outcome will be a direct fulfillment of the promise: "…Terror will come on the earth and the sea, for the devil has come down to you in great anger, knowing that he has little time" (Revelation 12:12-13, NLT). …[Satan’s work is centered in deception; hence, he "...is transformed into an angel of light" (2 Corinthians 11:14) to deceive and destroy. For example, he pursued the Christian Church, described, in Revelation, as the pregnant woman, who had given birth. [The roots of Christianity traces back to a] …woman clothed with the sun, with the moon beneath her feet, and a crown of 12 stars on her head (Revelation 12:1-2, NLT | Acts 1:26; | Acts 11:26; & Daniel 12:3). …[But God rescued this woman. She] was given two wings so she could fly to the place prepared for her in the wilderness. There she would be cared for and protected from the dragon for a time, times and half of time, [a reference taken from Daniel 7:25. Why did God give the woman wings]? ...The dragon tried to drown the woman with a flood of water that flowed from his mouth. But the earth helped her by opening its mouth and swallowing the river that gushed out from the mouth of the dragon. And the dragon was angry at the woman and declared war against the rest of her children—all who keep God’s commandments and maintain their testimony for Jesus” (Revelation 12:14-17, NLT & Daniel 7:25, NLT).
The roots of Armageddon lie very deep. This battle takes on cosmic dimensions as a warfare between good and evil. Already, some of God's soldiers have been, temporarily laid to rest, and more will soon follow those who took an early sleep (Rev 6:9-11, NLT). Satan is a formidable stalker and aggressor, who maintains constant surveillance of earth (Job 2:1-2, NLT). Therefore, “Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around, like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour” (1 Pet 5:8, NLT). “…Be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power. Put on all of God’s armor so you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places. Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm” (Eph 6:10-13, NLT).
Awake, Christian awake! Events of earth are setting the stage for the final conflict of the ages. "Wake up, wake up, O Zion! Clothe yourself with strength. Put on your beautiful clothes, O holy city of Jerusalem, for unclean and godless people will enter your gates no longer" (Isaiah 52:1, NLT). God has a special operation in progress called the Sealing. "...Four angels standing at the four corners of the earth [are] holding back the four winds so they [do] not blow on the earth or the sea, or even on any tree... until [the angel coming up from the east, carrying the seal of the living God has] placed the seal of God on the foreheads of His servants" (Revelation 7:1-3, NLT). The culmination of this special operation will usher in a new phase of God's wrap-up activities upon the earth as the sealed believers are prepared the "great tribulation..." (Revelation 7:14).
"Woe to her who is rebellious and polluted, to the oppressing city" (Zephaniah 3:1, NKJV)! "...For the time of fulfillment is near. And when that time comes, all doing wrong will do it more and more; the vile will become more vile; good men will be better; those who are holy will continue on in greater holiness" (Revelation 22:11, TLB). We are nearing the day when it shall be said: "For this is the day of the Lord, the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, a day of vengeance on his enemies. The sword will devour until it is satisfied, yes, until it is drunk with your blood! The Lord, the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, will receive a sacrifice… in the north country beside the Euphrates River” (Jer 46:10, NLT). The signal for the Lord’s day of sacrifice is the sound of “…the sixth angel… and the voice, [which says]…: ‘Release the four angels who are bound at the great Euphrates River’” (Rev 9:13-14, NLT). Upon execution of this command, "…the great Euphrates River… dried up so that the kings from the east could march their armies toward the west without hindrance. And I saw three evil spirits that looked like frogs leap from the mouths of the dragon, the beast, and the false prophets. They are demonic spirits who work miracles and go out to all the rulers of the world to gather them for battle against the Lord on that great judgment day of God the Almighty [Isaiah 13:9, 13; | Zephaniah 1:15, 18; & Revelation 6:12-14, NLT].
We are living in a quiet period just before the storm. Beyond the veil that separates the visible from the invisible, "…the demonic spirits [are gathering] all the rulers and their armies to a place with the Hebrew name Armageddon” (Revelation 16:16, NLT). Are you kidding me? Do you really believe this stuff? What external evidence, apart from the Bible, supports this narrative? Let us first begin with the Scriptures. "The rain and the snow come down from the heavens and stay on the ground to water the earth. They cause the grain to grow, producing seed for the farmer and bread for the hungry. It is the same with my word. I send it out, and it always produces fruit. It will accomplish all I want it to, and it will prosper everywhere I send it” (Isaiah 55:10-11, NLT). But we are looking for confirmatory evidence, not more internal evidence. Then we need look no further than an article published in the New York Times, titled: "Iraq Suffers as the Euphrates River Dwindles." In poignant sentences, the article states: “The Euphrates is drying up. …In the southeast, where the Euphrates nears the end of its 1,730-mile journey and mingles with the less salty waters of the Tigris before emptying into the Persian Gulf, the situation is grave. The marshes there that were intentionally reflooded in 2003, rescuing the ancient culture of the marsh Arabs, are drying up again." As the way is being prepared for earth’s final conflict, have “…you died to this life? [Is] your real life… hidden with Christ in God” (Colossians 3:3, NLT)?
This message is your reminder and warning to be ready for Christ's trimphant return. For He is the rider on the "...white horse... named Faithful and True, ...who judges farily and wages a righteous war" (Revelation 19:11, NLT). It is He who commands "the armies of heaven, dressed in the finest of pure, white linen..." (Revelation 19:14, NLT). Make no mistake, dear reader; the rider upon the white horse "...rode out to win many battles and gain the victory" (Revelation 6:2, NLT). The opposing army is doomed and will be decimated (Revelation 19:21, NLT). It is time for you "…to wait for [God’s] Son…, [who will] deliver us from the wrath to come” (1 Thessalonians 1:10), for we are living in the time of "the sixth seal..." (Revelation 6:12-16). This is an intensely solemn period of existence. Culminating events will unfold that will close the curtains on earth's history. Once the final battle is over, the next major event that the Revelator saw was the redeemed of all ages "...standing in front of the throne and before the Lamb...." (Revelation 7:9-17, NLT). You must be there! Because once the recruit's graduation, known as Pass-In-Review is over, "...the Lord of Heaven's Armies will spread a wonderful feast for all the people of the world. It will be a delicious banquet with clear, well-aged wiine and choice meat. There He will remove the cloud of gloom, the shadow of death that hangs over the earth. He will swallow up death forever! The Sovereign Lord will wiipe away all tears..." (Isaiah 25:6-10, NLT) "So, dear brothers and sisters, work hard to prove that you really are among those God has called and chosen..." (2 Peter 1:10, NLT).
