What Does it Mean to Believe in God?
“…The army of Judah went out into the wilderness of Tekoa. …[And] Jehoshaphat… [said]: ‘…Believe in the Lord your God and you shall have success…’” (2 Chron 20:20, TLB). Belief is the parent of action. “...Abraham believed God’s [promise to give him a son]…” (Rom 4:18, TLB). Subsequently, “…Abraham was shown to be right with God by his actions when he offered… Isaac on the altar [Gen 22:2 & 12]. …His actions made his faith complete. And… just as the Scripture say: Abraham believed God and God counted him as righteous because of his faith. …So you see, we are shown to be right with God by what we do, not by faith alone” (Jam 2:21-24, NLT), just as a “…tree is known by [its]… fruit…” (Luke 6:44). To believers everywhere, talk is NOT a substitute for action (Matt 21:28-31), but a complement to it.
