“…Our lives are not our own. We are not able to plan our own course” (Jer 10:23, NLT). “Happy are those who do not follow the advice of the wicked, or take the path that sinners tread, or sit in the seat of scoffers” (Pss 1:1, NRSV). “Your words are a flashlight to light the path ahead of me and keep me from stumbling” (Pss 119:105, TLB). “[Thus], after the death of Moses, the Lord’s servant, the Lord spoke to Joshua son of Nun, Moses’ assistant. He said, ‘Moses my servant is dead.
“One day Moses said to the Lord, ‘You have been telling me, take these people up to the Promised Land. But you haven’t‘ told me whom you will send with me. You have told me, I know you by name, and I look favorably on you.’ If it is true that you look favorably on me, let me know your ways so I may understand you more fully and continue to enjoy your favor…. The Lord replied, ‘I will personally go with you, Moses, and I will give you rest—everything will be fine for you’” (Exo 33:12-14, NLT). It is human to counsel with your fears or limitations and to be uncertain (Exo 4:10-12).
“…My people come pretending to be sincere and sit before you. They listen to your words, but they have no intentions of doing what you say…” (Eze 33:31, NLT). “Listen to me, you wise men. Pay attention, you who have knowledge. …Pay attention to what I say” (Job 34:2 & 16, NLT). “…Take my words to heart. Follow my commands, and you will live” (Prov 4:4, NLT). “…Never stray from what I am about to say” (Prov 5:7, NLT), “…and pay attention to my words” (Prov 7:24, NLT). “…Commit yourselves wholeheartedly to these words of mine.
James Cleveland - In God's Own Time
“…Rules may seem wise because they require… pious self-denial…; but they provide NO help in conquering a person’s evil desires. You were dead because… your sinful nature was not yet cut away…. [But] you were buried with Christ when you were baptized. And with Him you were raised to new life because you trusted the mighty power of God, who raised Christ from the dead. …Then God made you alive with Christ.
God “…desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth” (1 Tim 2:4 & John 14:6, NKJV). Who then will be saved? “…[Whoever] believes [in Jesus Christ] and is baptized will be saved…” (Mark 16:16; John 3:16, NKJV) “…through the grace of… Christ…” (Acts 15:11; Eph 2:5 & 8, NKJV). But it is not enough to believe, for “…devils also believe…” (Jam 2:19). The “…saved… [are] called… with a holy calling… [Tit 3:5, NKJV)], according to… [God’s] own purpose and grace…” (2 Tim 1:9, NKJV).
