“The sinful nature wants to do evil, which is just opposite of what the Spirit wants. And the Spirit gives us desires that are opposite of what the sinful nature desires. …So you are not free to carry out your good intentions. But when you are directed by the Spirit... [‘…you… do not give into sinful desires’ (Rom 6:12, NLT) because ‘…the Spirit… quickens your mortal body…’ (Rom 8:11); the old life is gone [and] a new life… [begins]” (2 Cor 5:17, NLT), and you ‘…walk in newness of life’ (Rom 6:4) as a child of God (Rom 8:14).
“Jesse’s family is like a tree that has been cut down. A new little tree will grow from its stump. From its roots a Branch will grow… and produce fruit [Matt 1:5-16]. The Spirit of the Lord will rest on that Branch. [‘…God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power…’ (Acts 10:38)]. He will help him to be wise and understanding…, [to] make wise plans and carry them out, …to know the Lord and have respect for him. The Branch will take delight in respecting the Lord. [‘I delight to do thy will, O my God…’ (Pss 40:8)].
“…Moses said to the Lord, ‘You have been telling me, take these people… to the Promised Land. But you haven’t told me whom you will send with me.’ …The Lord replied, ‘I will personally go with you, Moses…” (Exo 33:12-15, NLT). God has already provided for us. “The Lord went ahead of them… and… did not remove the pillar of cloud or… fire from its place in front of the people” (Exo 13:21-22, NLT); only as needed (Exo 14:19, NLT). “You led our ancestors by a pillar of cloud during the day and a pillar of fire at night so that they could find their way” (Neh 9:12; Deut 1:33, NLT).
