“…Rules may seem wise because they require… pious self-denial…; but they provide NO help in conquering a person’s evil desires. You were dead because… your sinful nature was not yet cut away…. [But] you were buried with Christ when you were baptized. And with Him you were raised to new life because you trusted the mighty power of God, who raised Christ from the dead. …Then God made you alive with Christ.

“…If you are always biting and devouring one another, watch out! Beware of destroying one another” (Gal 5:15, NLT). “What is causing the quarrels and fights among you? Isn’t it because there is a whole army of evil desires within you? …You long for what others have and can’t afford it, so you start a fight to take it away from them. “A human heart is more dishonest than anything else…” (Jer 17:9, NIRV). It “…is always directed toward what is evil…, from… [youth]…” (Gen 8:21, NIRV), because it is “…full of evil…” (Eccles 9:3, NIRV). “…We are not able to plan our own course” (Jer 10:23, NLT); therefore, we “…stubbornly follow [our] own evil desires…” (Jer 16:12 & 18:12, NLT). And the outwardly religious majority is also trapped in this state (Isa 58:1-2; 2 Tim 3:1-5). “These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me” (Matt 15:8, NLT). Inward change is necessary.

Belief is the parent of action. “...Abraham believed God’s [promise to give him a son]…” (Rom 4:18, TLB). Subsequently, “…Abraham was shown to be right with God by his actions when he offered… Isaac on the altar [Gen 22:2 & 12]. …His actions made his faith complete. And… just as the Scripture say: Abraham believed God and God counted him as righteous because of his faith.
